DVLA - Nothing but incompetance
I going to try not to rant over this but I am staggered with the level of incompetance within DVLA.
Here I go:
Duly arrived at my DVLA inspection. The inspector wasn't expecting me and had done no preparation for my arrival. I had to show my appointment letter before he knew who I was and why I was there.
He took one look at the car and told me it had been built all wrong, we then entered a debate which consisted of him telling me why my car could not get a new registration because I had used donor parts and my repeatedly telling him that I did not want a new registration and my car was correctly built for a single donor, age related plate. I asked him to call Swansea or his office to clarify my application but he wouldn't.
After a very frustrating 30 minutes he said he would speak to the other inspectors as to what to do and sent me packing.
The following morning, still fuming over these events I logged an official complaint to DVLA about the appointment and the inspector.
Next day I got a letter from DVLA saying they wanted to give the car a Q plate and that the VIN number was registered to another vehicle and they wanted me to re-plate the frame, they also wanted an MOT despite my VOSA paperwork only being a couple of weeks old. So I am now wondering what VIN number they checked, when I was with the inspector he made mistakes with every detail he wrote down and every letter I have received from the local office miss-quotes VIN and REG numbers.
I unfortunately missed a call from DVLA Swansea regarding my complaint but they said they will try me again. I have also drafted a letter to the local office which basically asks that the inspector never speaks to me again and that his manager does.
I think the rant may of started. Anyway I now await my call back from Swansea and it looks like I am in for the long haul to complete what should be a very straightforward procedure.

The Manchester office have called following my letter, they had obviously checked out all the facts before the call. The outcome was that I should ignore everything the inspector said, the VIN number is unique and will be used. The car will be registered with an age related plate and my tax disk will be in the post today or tomorrow. And the last thing, they will be investigating how the inspector got it so wrong, not that I care now, I just want to drive my car. It might be getting cold but if it is dry I will be out this weekend.
